Kangaroos rarely make a sound, so at first we thought that they couldn't laugh. And then we realised why we came to that conclusion: they only laugh on the move. So, if a herd of kangaroos is bouncing along and one of them trips over, all the others will laugh on the hop, so to speak. Trying to get a kangaroo laugh while hopping along in a kangaroo suit in 40 degrees centigrade in the Australian desert is no joke, but full marks to our researcher who tripped himself over and got the laugh.
